This is probably what the sacred Gosainkund lakes look like in winter. I’m going to trek there in January 2012, the coldest time of the year. With only 8 days in all, I don’t think I’ll be crossing over to Helambu no matter how tempting the proposition is.
I’m just going to trek in from Dhunche, do a circumambulation like the pilgrims do, climb up a few viewpoints, take some outrageous photos and trek out the same way.
With weather conditions unpredictable, I will engage a guide and bring along my ice axe. But if my guess it right, the freak weather conditions (unusually cloudy) this trekking season will clear up by January. I had incredibly clear skies during my last winter trek in the Everest region. Of course, it was bitterly cold – which didn’t bother me too much.
Still pretty cloudy in late November! I’ll keep monitoring, keeping my fingers crossed.
