Week 3

Yes, I’m cruising into the 3rd week post-op. I dropped by at Dr Sean’s clinic at about 1100 this morning and I couldn’t wait to get the spacers out. About 2 stitches have been placed for the 2 bigger openings and 1 stitch for each of the smaller ones. As you can see, the swelling on this part of the foot has almost gone done completely.

Thanks to the spacer, there is now a gap between the big toe and the second toe. This is the amount of initial stretch that is necessary to establish a gap. This gap now needs to be reduced slightly by bringing the other toes medially.

There is a little bit more swelling on the right side. I guess it’s because it’s my “leading” leg when I walk. The bunions are gone, but this is when I hit a plateau. The residual swelling (which has migrated further up) will take quite a while to resolve. In the meantime, my feet must still be bandaged and the sandals must still be worn for the full 6 weeks.

There should be no significant changes this time round. Next appointment in two weeks – Week 5.
